Description

Normalised dataset extracted from the central Recorder database on natural heritage information, which is held and managed by the national museum of natural history of Luxembourg. The dataset contains observation and specimen data on species listed in the EU Birds directive (annex 1) and the EU habitats directive (annex 2).

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 82,590 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods

All kinds of methods have been used: field observations as well as methods for capturing organisms (eg. pitfall traps, butterfly nets).

Study Extent Luxembourg and surrounding areas
Quality Control variable qualities

Method step description:

  1. Observations were made on the field by scientific collaborators or Museum employees and have been either imported as standard Excel sheets or entered as items into the database. The central database application of the Museum is Recorder 6 which allows for controlled data entry (against taxonomic reference lists, location name lists, lists of contacts...) and stores data in a SQL Server database installed on a Museum server.

Purpose

Contributing data to a Greater Region Portal on EU wide protected species. This dataset holds data from the national biodiversity database of the national museum of natural history in Luxembourg. Only occurrence data on species listed on annex 1 of EU bird directive and of annex 2 EU habitat directive within the Greater Region (Lorraine, Luxembourg, Rheinland-Pfalz, Saarland, Wallonie) were extracted.
