Description

The data in this checklist represents the Formicidae fauna of Luxembourg, it was extracted from the publications: * Wegnez P., Ignace D., Morro C. 2021. - Atlas des fourmis luxembourgeoises (Hymenoptera, Formicidae). Ferrantia 84, Musée national d'histoire naturelle, Luxembourg, 130 p. https://ps.mnhn.lu/ferrantia/publications/Ferrantia84.pdf Abstract: This myrmecological atlas is the result of a five-year research project (2013–2017) conducted throughout the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and targeting all possible types of habitats in order to obtain the best possible representation of the fauna of Luxembourg ants, with their specificities and ecological requirements. We include a list of all 66 species that have been described in Luxembourg over the last more than hundred years with an indication of their conservation status. This research led to the discovery of nineteen new species for Luxembourg, namely: Tapinoma subboreale Seifert, 2012; T. melanocephalum (Fabricius, 1793); Camponotus herculeanus (Linnaeus, 1758); Lasius distinguendus Emery, 1916; L. jensi Seifert, 1982; L. meridionalis (Bondroit, 1920); L. platythorax Seifert, 1991; L. sabularum (Bondroit, 1918); Plagiolepis taurica Santschi, 1920; Formica polyctena Foerster, 1850; Monomorium pharaonis (Linnaeus, 1758); Myrmica bibikoffi Kutter, 1963; M. lobicornis Nylander, 1846; M. sabuleti Meinert, 1861; M. specioides Bondroit, 1918; Stenamma debile (Foerster, 1850); Temnothorax albipennis (Curtis, 1854); T. parvulus (Schenck, 1852) and Ponera testacea Emery, 1895.The presence of five species previously reported - Lasius bicornis (Förster, 1850); L. myops Forel, 1894; Temnothorax corticalis (Schenck, 1852); T. nigriceps (Mayr, 1855) and T. tuberum (Fabricius, 1775) - is considered doubtful, while five other species - Camponotus lateralis (Olivier, 1791); Formica pressilabris Nylander, 1846; Strongylognathus testaceus (Schenck, 1852); Anergates atratulus (Schenck, 1852) and Hypoponera punctatissima (Roger, 1859) - have no longer been found and are probably extinct. The atlas also includes a key to identify the different species present in Luxembourg as well as species sheets, all illustrated with numerous photos.

Data Records

The data in this checklist resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 66 records.

2 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
